Jennyruth Workshops seeks to develop self-awareness, pride, dignity, confidence, social awareness and social interaction for people who have learning disabilities. To achieve this it manufactures and sells toys, household goods, a range of garden and wildlife items, a large variety of clocks as well as Christmas items. People with learning disabilities are involved in all aspects of the commercial operation - purchasing, manufacturing, packaging selling, dispatch and handling money. Jennyruth Workshops grew from a small local business setup to meet the needs of a family of 5 young people with Down's Syndrome. It moved to its current premises in 2003 and was officially opened by HRH The Countess of Wessex on June 4th 2004. In 2005 Jennyruth has been awarded the prestigious Duke of York's Award, at the higher level, for service to the local community.
