13. The Unicorn Hotel

The Unicorn Hotel has always been at the centre of the city's activities. It is probable that the Unicorn was in existence at the time of the Poll Tax returns of 1379, when three unnamed inns returned their tax forms. Even from the outside it is possible to recognise the history of this hotel, as the original brass plaques indicate that this was a collection point for stagecoach mail. Stepping into the foyer reveals a traditional decor well suited to the weary traveller, and the pictures around the well stocked bar show the history of this building. In the side bar, a large mural shows sections of the history of Ripon and it's people.
