Ripon Granted £11.7m For Flood Defences
Friday 11 April
After the terrible floods that Ripon had to deal with last summer it has been announced that Ripon has been granted the much needed funds for the flood defences.
The plans for a major flood defence scheme has been in place for a few years, but it has lacked the funding. Yesterday the Yorkshire Regional Flood Defence Committee agree that the scheme should be reinstated into the overall programme that will be taking place in Yorkshire.
There will be a total of £42m spent in 2008/2009 throughout the region that will see the worst hit areas get the extra protection.
The work is due to start next year after further planning and consultation has taken place. The defences will mean a real boost for the people and businesses in the worst hit areas of Ripon who have suffered over the last decade, protecting 550 homes and the general infrastructure of Ripon.
