Ripon Is Set To Lose Another Big Name From The High Street
Earlier on today Mark & Spencers announced their latest sales figures which saw like for like sales fall by 7.1%. This was followed up by the announcement of plans to close 25 of its Simply Food stores – and Ripon M & S is one of them.
So Ripon is set to lose its Marks & Spencers Simply Food store, but as yet there are no details as to when this will happen. Will this move have an effect on the new Booths store that is due to open in the Summer of 2009, or does this bode better for Booths as there will be less competition for the up market customers?
Ripons streets are starting to show the signs that the global credit crisis is going to affect us all. We have seen Fads disappear closely followed by Woolworths. There have been other smaller local shops close but also others opening... but how many more national stores will we lose in the year to come. Signs are that the Curry’s / PCWorld holding company are struggling so will they be next to leave Ripon, and who will fill these large premises that are becoming vacant on the high street?
Times are going to be hard for Ripon and us all in the coming year, but one thing that we have to all try to do is support the local shops and help Ripon remain afloat.
