Ripon Area Business Association

Thursday 01 March

During 2006, the Ripon Area Business Association was successful in promoting the interests of business people in Ripon, and aims to build on that further in 2007.

Last May, RABA had a stall at the Harrogate Business Fair which successfully show-cased Ripon as a place to work, live and play and piloted the new Ripon logo. It was very well received by all, and the attractive, dynamic new logo merited a special mention as one of the most eye-catching and effective displays (see photo opposite).

RABA was pleased to support and help with events which brought our City alive, such as Discover Ripon Day and the Christmas Market Place activities, running hog roasts and mulled wine stalls, which were all great fun and very popular with local residents and visitors alike.

As well as these more visible events, RABA continues to work ‘behind the scenes’ to help businesses in Ripon with various issues, such as planning applications, and liaising with local government departments. RABA has been working closely with Harrogate Borough Council recently to improve the car parking situation in Ripon, in advance of the start of the major new development taking place west of the market place in Easter this year.

The parking issue is still an ongoing project , and so RABA will still continue to be proactive in 2007 to help find a workable solution - if you want to find out more about the development and the car-parking issue, come along to the next RABA meeting at the Town Hall on 20th March, at 6pm, when Maple Grove will give a presentation. The solutions to many issues facing Ripon, it’s people and it’s businesses, are more easily found by working together and improving communications between these different sectors of our community.

2007 is set to be an exciting time for members of the Ripon Area Business Association, with a busy calendar of business discussions and social evenings planned for the rest of the year.

Things have already started at great pace, as members, plus their friends and family enjoyed a Pub Quiz - with a £100 first prize! - at the end of February at the Golden Lion on Allhallowgate. This was a great chance for business people and friends to get together in a non-business environment for an informal relaxed night of networking and entertainment.

Prospective members are always very welcome to come along, meet everyone and join in, and RABA aims to recruit more member businesses in 2007. At only £48 for a year’s membership, it is excellent value for money for the help, support, information and networking opportunities that are offered to members. To join, please email chair@raba.org.uk. By joining together, a stronger business network can be created and this will help to achieve a vibrant and sustainable environment for success in the City of Ripon.
