Not long ago, solar technology was out of reach for domestic customers, but the Worcester Bosch group have developed a system for householders who want to harness the power of the sun to generate sustainable energy.

Backed by Worcester Bosch group, who are known for innovative quality, reliability and their dedication to environmental protection, two highly skilled local tradesmen are now able to offer solar panel system installations in the Ripon area.

Brian Bulmer and Brian Bassitt have more than 50 years experience between them in gas services, plumbing and heating and are both well respected names around Ripon in their own right. Since completing the Worcester Bosch solar training course, they are working together to bring sustainable energy to this area.

“For people who want to save money on their hot water bills and also help protect the environment, solar panel systems are an efficient way of doing both by utilising the energy if the sun,” explains Brian Bulmer. “Even on a cloudy day, there are still rays of energy coming from the sun that can be converted to heat by the solar panels.”

The technology used for solar heating is simple and effective. The sun’s energy is ‘trapped’ by an absorber plate, which becomes heated. The heat is collected by a transfer liquid which in turn is used in a heat exchanger to heat water. A variety of frames and fixings are available to install the panels on many different roof types and pitches and they can even be fitted to flat roofs or in rear gardens. To optimise the energy utilisation, it is recommended that a new condensing boiler be fitted at the same time, so the whole system is as efficient as possible. Worcester Bosch say that significant savings in the region of 50 - 70% can be made on hot water bills by using solar panels.
