Ed Kluz, Michael Kirkman, Al Heighton & Jonny Hannah: New work at The Shop @ Newby Hall

Opens: 01 April 2010

This group exhibition at Newby Hall features the work of Ed Kluz, the artist in residence at Newby Hall, Jonny Hannah, Al Heighton and Michael Kirkman. All these artists have had an exceptional 2009, with exhibitions at The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh, St Jude’s Gallery in Norfolk, Castor & Pollux in Brighton and the Bankside Gallery in London and numerous commissioned projects. We are pleased to represent them in the north of England and this exhibition features new work for 2010.

The private view will be held on Tuesday 30th March from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Newby Hall opens to the public on the 1st April.

It will also be an opportunity to view the new products on offer in the shop this year which includes Swedish glassware, creative gifts for children, the designs of Clifford Richards and the Original Metal Box Company, new ranges of jewellery, lighting and lightshades, textiles and furnishings by Lush, Thornback & Peel and Abraham Moon and many more new product lines.

There will be wine and refreshments served alongside live music from John Tunnard at the private view.

Live Jazz @ Great Northern Wine

Jacqui Wicks

Hailing from Yorkshire, Jacqui Wicks came to prominence as the beguiling voice of legendary Bradford collective The Sex Patels and sings prolifically on the Northern jazz, folk, and soul circuit.

Jacqui has now stepped out with her own wonderful musicians with her long awaited debut album, Vintage. Beautifully arranged by long time musical partner Kevin James, and featuring eclectic and unique renditions of songs by Tom Waits, Nina Simone, and Nick Drake amongst other timeless classics and oddities.

Vintage is a, genre defying album full of music that has shaped the 20th century and beyond. The live performances of these songs form an intimate and celebratory experience that will leave a tear in the eye and a skip in the heart. Be prepared to be entertained and moved.

The Fifth Sharow Photographic Competition 2010 – working for charity.

The proceeds from the 2010 competition will be used to support the work of Martin House Hospice for Children & Young Adults and St John’s Church, Sharow, Ripon, North Yorkshire.

Mambo Jambo

Two musicians and singers with a shared passion for exploring and sharing music from other continents, Pete and Frankie play a range of hot sounds from around the world using all acoustic ingredients - an impressive array of acoustic instruments including guitar, banjo, tres, saxophone, clarinet and flute - all played with flair and enthusiasm.

Their repertoire is rhythmically inspired by the sounds of Latin America, Africa and the Caribbean, plus bluegrass, boogie and rhumba. Blending these diverse influences they create a joyously upbeat and rootsy sound of their own - a global musical treat with appeal across a very wide audience.

One of the most accomplished and versatile duos around, Mambo Jambo have been taking audiences on a musical journey from Cuba to Congo to Kentucky and beyond since 1990, with 1,500 gigs behind them all around Europe, and as far afield as Havana, where they’ve performed and studied with top Cuban bands and players.
