Good News For Shoppers In Ripon

It has been announced today that shoppers will be offered free parking in Ripon from the 24th May, once work starts on the West of the Marketplace.

The free parking scheme has been developed and organised by the independant traders in Ripon to help the City maintain the shoppers while Ripon undergoes major redevelopment. The big fear is that when Ripon loses many parking spaces during the development we could see a decline in the number of shoppers.

In the new scheme Ripon's car park pay machines will issue 2 tickets, one that you stick in your car as normal and the other that you take with you while you shop. If you spend over £5 in any of the 20 or more businesses already signed up to the scheme they will refund your parking costs. The fee reimbursed will be a maximum of 80p equivalent to 2 hours parking.

There will be signs up in the car parks to make people aware of the scheme as well as special notices in the participating shop windows.
