Leeds Festival Chorus sing Mozart's Requiem

Leeds Festival Chorus sing Mozart's Requiem

Ripon Cathedral Minster Rd, Ripon HG4 1QT at 7.30pm

Mozart: Requiem Barber: Agnus Dei Bach: Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden (BWV 230) Mozart: Eine Kleine Nachtmusik

Harriet Eyley (soprano) Helen Brackenbury (mezzo) Wagner Moreira (tenor) Tristan Hambleton (bass) Leeds Festival Chorus York Guildhall Orchestra Simon Wright (conductor)

The “Requiem” by Mozart is one of the most popular pieces of classical music. Beautiful melodies combine with dramatic intensity, as befits the subject matter, whilst reassuring the listener with a message of hope and peace. Barber’s “Agnus Dei” takes his most famous music, originally heard as the “Adagio for Strings” (the American “Nimrod”), and sets to it the great Lamb of God text sung by unaccompanied four-part chorus: a truly moving work. Bach’s short motet offers joyous and typically ingenious music as we “praise the Lord, all ye nations”. Finally, Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” is a well-known little serenade for orchestra described by one musicologist as “an occasional piece from a light but happy pen”.

Tickets: £24 reserved nave, £18 unreserved sides. From www.leedsfestivalchorus.co.uk/events/mozart-requiem/ or Ripon Cathedral Shop.

Critically acclaimed and with a legion of devoted followers, these six musicians are all masters of their craft … and when together add up to something greater than the sum of its parts.
