Sullivan Choral Spectacular, Ripon Cathedral

Oxbridge Opera will present an outstanding evening of Sir Arthur Sullivan's rich and exciting choral music in the magnificent setting of Ripon Cathedral. Using the massed voices of some of the finest young choral singers in the country and professional soloists, this promises to be one of the highlights of this year's International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival (2 - 26 August). The programme includes: On Shore on Sea; Two movements from The Martyr of Antioch, Two movements from The Golden Legend and Festival Te Deum. A nin-piece brass ensemble and the Cathedral organ will be features of the evening. The concert will commence at 7.30 pm. Tickets: £20.00 from the Box Office: 01423 502116. Wartime Object Handling Sessions

A red cross apron, complete with wartime blood splatters, is one of the items you can inspect during the museum’s ‘wartime object handling sessions’ You can touch and feel and smell them - this is a real chance to experience history for all ages.

The red cross apron has been donated by Jill Wilkinson, Courthouse Curator, and belonged to her Auntie Alice, born on 12th October 1890. In 1914 at the outbreak of WW1, Alice joined the Red Cross and served throughout. After the war, Alice, like many other women of her generation, never married.

Photography Exhibition

Annual Photography Exhibition featuring the varied work of members of Ripon City Photographic Society. 9.30am to 4pm with official opening by the Mayor if Ripon, the Right Worshipful Mick Stanley at 10am. Free admission (optional retiring donations welcome), light refreshments on sale, full access to all. Venue: Allhallowgate Methodist Church, Victoria Grove, Ripon, HG4 1LG. Public car parks nearby and easy access to city centre also.

Louise Marchal: Noble Bloods

Contemporary artist Louise Marchal pays tribute to nineteenth century sculptor Frances Darlington, in a multi-media installation for the chapel of Ripon’s Prison and Police Museum.

'Noble Bloods' commemorates the World War One centenary and will be shown alongside Darlington’s sculpture, the St. George's Police Orphanage World War One Memorial completed in 1918.

Birthdays, Anniversaries, Mother’s and Father’s Day are just some of the ways were celebrate the special people in our lives. When they’re gone we don’t stop remembering.

Dedicating a sunflower in Saint Michael’s Sunflower garden this summer is a way to remember and celebrate the life of someone special. Whether you miss a parent, partner, grandparent, child, sibling or friend this is a special time for you to reflect and pay tribute to their life.

By making your dedication your special someone will have their own sunflower plaque displayed in the beautiful gardens of Saint Michael’s Hospice this summer.

Once you’ve made your dedication you will be invited to come and see our bright sea of Sunflowers, including your own special dedication, at an open garden event from 10.00am to 12 noon at Saint Michael’s Hospice on Sunday 20th July. During this time you are welcome to join family and friends, enjoy the gardens at Saint Michael’s and a coffee among friends and volunteers of Saint Michael’s and Just ‘B’.
