A Celebration of Richard Rodgers
Ripon Amateur Operatic Society are currently preparing for their autumn concert, “A Celebration of Richard Rodgers” which will be performed on 4th and 5th October 2012 at 7.30pm.
The programme will consist of lively chorus numbers as well as solos and pieces performed by smaller groups. Members of the Ripon Youth Theatre will also be joining the cast.
Favourites from Oklahoma, The King & I, Sound of Music, South Pacific and Carousel will be interspersed with jazz numbers such as My Funny Valentine, Manhattan and Blue Moon.
The programme will be linked by an engaging narration giving the audience insight into some of the great composer’s history.
This year the society have decided on a change of venue and are excited to be performing for the first time at Holy Trinity Church, Ripon which has, throughout recent years, been converted into a modern and comfortable performance space within the city centre.

The Ripon Sunrise Walk
The Ripon Sunrise Walk gives people a chance to get their walking shoes on, experience some of North Yorkshire’s most beautiful countryside while also raising vital funds for Saint Michael’s Hospice.
The event, sponsored by Eura Audit Ripon, is suitable for all ages and abilities and walkers are welcome to bring their dogs
The six mile route leaves Sawley Village as the sun rises and passes Fountains Abbey and Studley Deer Park before finishing at Ripon Cathedral with hot drinks and a breakfast buttie from Appleton’s of Ripon for each walker.
Date: Sunday October 14 2012, time to be determined. Registration costs £10 and £5 for children and every participant is asked to raise sponsorship for Saint Michael’s. Places are limited and participants must register before Friday October 5 2012.

Light up a Life is an important opportunity for those in our communities and wider to join together and remember those who cannot be with us during this festive season.

Discover Ripon Twitter Hour
Online novices can book to join a social media workshop which runs in the Mayor's Parlour in the Town Hall from 7pm until the end of #DiscoverRipon hour at 9pm. Members of the Discover Ripon Hub will be on hand to help businesses and organisations get going with Twitter, make contact with other local groups, develop their social media presence online, or simply demonstrate how Twitter works as a marketing tool. This workshop is free of charge but booking is essential as places are limited.
